This week marks our annual EMS week honoring our
Emergency Medical Service workers.  This week crews are
visiting the local grade schools, having lunch with the
students and answering questions that they might have.
Crews are also planning on having a CPR both to answer
any questions and to promote our free monthly CPR class.
Stop by the farmers market on Wednesday and check out
our CPR booth.

EMS Week May 17th - 22rd 2009
Last month a resident of Forest Grove had a medical
emergency, what was unique about this call was that the
patients 6 year old daughter dialed 911 and was able to get
EMS personnel to respond and assist.  What is amazing is
how well the patients daughter acted during a very
stressful time.  She provided the dispatcher with the
appropriate information on her mothers condition as well
as making sure her little brother was OK.  Last week
Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency
who is the counties 911 dispatch center recognized the
young girl for here efforts in saving her mothers life.  As
part of EMS week 2009 Forest Grove Fire and Rescue will
be giving this little hero a ride to school she will never
forget.  She will be arriving to school in a shiny red fire
engine where firefighters will talk to her class about the
importance of knowing how to call 911 in an emergency.
Some tips for parents:

Teach your children how to dial 911 in an emergency.

Quiz them on question you think a dispatcher might
ask:
- Your address
- Why are they calling 911?
- Who needs help?
- Is there anyone else with them
- Any other pertinent information that they can
provide on the situation.

911 is not a toy, but teaching your children how to use
it properly, someday may save your life or that of a
loved one.
