Firefighters Compete in the Scott
Firefighter Stair Climb

The event which has been held annually for the last 16 years in
Seattle at the Columbia Tower (formerly Bank of America Tower) has
drawn firefighter from all over the world to compete.  This year marks
the 3rd year that members from the department have made the
journey to compete in this event.  The event, which is a fund raiser for
the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has helped raise money for
blood cancer research and patient services.  This unique event is the
largest individual firefighter competition in the world.

The Columbia Tower, which stands 788 feet overlooking downtown
Seattle, is the second tallest building west of the Mississippi.  
Firefighters competing in this event will climb a total of 69 floors or
1,311 steps wearing full protective equipment, the same equipment
that we use when fighting fires.

This past year 8 members of the fire department competed in this
event.
