The event which has been held annually for the last 16 years in
Seattle at the Columbia Tower (formerly Bank of America Tower) has
drawn firefighter from all over the world to compete. This year marks
the 3rd year that members from the department have made the
journey to compete in this event. The event, which is a fund raiser for
the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has helped raise money for
blood cancer research and patient services. This unique event is the
largest individual firefighter competition in the world.
The Columbia Tower, which stands 788 feet overlooking downtown
Seattle, is the second tallest building west of the Mississippi.
Firefighters competing in this event will climb a total of 69 floors or
1,311 steps wearing full protective equipment, the same equipment
that we use when fighting fires.
Last year 8 members of the fire department competed in this event as
part of the team from the Tualitin Valley Firefighters Union local 1660.
This year there has been a lot of interest from more members of
FGF&R that we will be forming our own team to compete.
A link to the team fund raiser page will be posted shortly. This page
will allow you to donate online for those who wish to do so in helping
our cause.
In addition to raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
we will be having a friendly competition with the Cornelius Fire
Department team, so check back for the results, this all goes down on
Sunday March 2, 2008.
